Counselling and Psychotherapy

What is Counselling and Psychotherapy?

Counselling is a process that empowers individuals to take back control of their lives, whilst working through issues and problems that have caused them personal lose or discomfort.  There may be times during counselling that difficult emotions are stirred up. However, counselling increases self-awareness and a sense of well-being, and is often the first step individuals take on their path to discovering a more positive life while regaining self-esteem and confidence in their own abilities.

There is "no size fits all" when it comes to therapy and many methods to help you on your way

Talk Therapy

 Traditional Talk Therapy

Talking helps us communicate and connect with others. Talk therapy, is one of the most common and traditional methods of therapy.
It is based on the central idea that talking about the things that are bothering you can help clarify them and put them in perspective.  Talk therapy is not just talking about your problems; it is also about working toward solutions.

Therapy Resources

 Identifying  Resources

When we are struggling with difficulties in life, it can be all too easy to lose sight of our own strengths, abilities, knowledge, and coping skills.

There are many resources that can be nurtured to help you move forward including individual strengths, your own abilities, social relationships, belief / spirituality, recreational hobbies/sports.

Creative Counselling

Sometimes it's hard to talk about our difficulties. Creative counselling provides  different approaches to help us

. Self-expression through creative media provides understanding of ourselves and our difficulties through painting, drawing, writing, clay, music, poetry … leading to improved self-esteem, stress relief and reduced symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Personal Therapy

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment in the present moment and experiencing it without judgement. Practicing Mindfulness can help you improve your breathing; reduce anxiety, stress and negative thoughts.Using mindfulness, we can boosts our working memory, become more focused and less emotional reactivity. I can help you practice mindfulness, and tune your thoughts into what your sensing in the present moment rather than rehashing the past or imagining the future.

Body and Mind Therapy

Bodywork

Many challenging and thought-provoking emotions can be experienced through counselling.
People experience the world not only through their thoughts and emotions but also simultaneously through their bodies.
Exploration and understanding of these emotions and their effect on the body can be very powerful.  Body work focuses on the interactions between these emotions and the body.

Couples Therapy

No One Size fits All

Counselling is not a 'one size fits all' process, as each of us is unique; therefor therapy is tailored to suit your individual needs. I work primarily from a Person-Centered model to develop a strong therapeutic relationship of trust, integrating traditional and creative methods; Solution Focused, CBT, Mindfulness.... We can work together to pinpoint habits, beliefs, and behaviours that are no longer serving you and replace them with new coping skills, thoughts and behaviours to overcome the problems holding you back.
